TIPS & TRICKS FOR
TRAVELERS
In honor of my trip to Thailand this week, we're talking tips and tricks for the traveler within. Whether it's packing or getting around, there's a million ideas to prepare you for your next trip! Check some out some of these wonderful gems below, and maybe you too, can incorporate them into your next destination.
TOILETRIES & BEAUTY
Place the amount of liquid ingredients into straws. Cut and burn the edges to made tiny sealed containers for overnight trips. (Source)
Store vitamins and medication for one day in a button bag.
Make a tiny nail polish remover kit by soaking small pieces of sponge in a nail polish remover solution, and store in an empty film canister.
Use an eye-glass case to store all your manicure needs in one place.
Bring an oven mitt along for burn-free curling iron use.
ChapStick serves double duty as cuticle moisturizer.
Before screwing on the tops to your liquids, cover the bottle with plastic wrap to prevent spills.
Use cotton swabs to carry small quantities of dry make-up in your bag.
Use a sunglass case to store make-up brushes during travel.
Store small quantities of shampoo, conditioner or liquid soap in 1/4 oz Zip Lock bags.
Conditioner serves double purpose as shaving creme!
Sunscreen serves double duty as shaving creme!
Use a contact case to store and sort medication.
CLOTHING & SHOES
Wrap shirts in tissue paper to prevent wrinkling.
Place dryer sheets in shoes to absorb bad odors.
When packing, store shoes in shower caps to keep the rest of your belonging clean.
Wrap shoes is large socks to present dirt from spreading to other items in your suitcase.
JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES
Store smalls stud earrings in an old (or wearable) watch.
Use a medicine organizer to store small earrings.
Store necklaces in a straw to keep them from getting tangled in your suitcase.
Use a mitten to store sunglasses and keep them from getting scratched. (A sock would work too!)
Store earrings in small Zip Lock bags for easy view.
If your glasses break during a trip, try fitting a stud earring into the hole to keep them in place!
Wrap necklaces in bubble wrap to keep them from tangling.
ELECTRONICS
Place mail tag stickers on your electronics for an easy return in case they are lost!
Store a digital camera in an old soap case to keep it from scratching in your purse.
Store electronics in a toiletry holder for easy access.
SUITCASES & PLANE
Use duct tape to make luggage tags for your suitcase. (Don't forget to add your e-mail address for easy contact while traveling!)
Place colorful ribbon on your suitcase handle for easy spotting at baggage claim.
Use plastic wrap to make handles for hard to carry boxes.
Make a color kit to keep your kids entertained on the plane (or car... or train... or bus...)!
Place crayons in an Altoid container for easy storage on the go!
GETTING AROUND
Carry your favorite sweetner or sugar with you on your travels by placing them in a business card holder.
Make a matchbook sewing kit to keep in your purse in case of emergencies.
Wrap a ribbon around an umbrella to keep in secure.
Wrap a travel journal in paper to keep others from guessing what you are reading in public. (This is great in a city you want to blend in, rather than stick out as a foreigner.)
Rub baby powder on sandy legs to remove excess sand after a trip to the beach.
Place dryer sheets in your back pocket to keep from getting bug bites in outdoor destinations.
Attach your keys and money to a binder clip and attach it to your belt for on the go shopping or for a night out on the town.
Take photos of a map and keep it handy in your camera for easy reference in a new city.
Keep a copy of your Hotel matchbook for easy reference on phone number and exact location in case of emergency.
Keep an empty canister or water bottle in your suitcase and stuff all your souvenirs as you go. It's a great way to keep them all in one place. (Or try a zip lock for bigger items!)
Keep a plastic bag handy for use as a rain hat in case of a surprise storm!
